Topography:- Ooty is also known as Udagamandalam. It is situated in the Nilgiri hills of Tamil nadu State. It is an important hill station in South India. It is located at an altitude of 2240m.It has an area of 36sq.km with a population of 81726.Ooty,being a summer resort, records low temperature in summer season while winter is very cold. The months best suited to visit Ooty are April, May, June, September and October.



Places of Tourist Interest:- The worth seeing places in Ooty are the Indian Botanical Gardens and Kalahatti Waterfalls. Tourism is the major industry in Ooty. Tourists can enjoy the scenic beauty of Ooty throughout the year. The city is surrounded by thick natural vegetation.

Others:- Ooty is the biggest urban settlement in Nilgiris. There are a number of tribals around Ooty such as Todas, Kotas and Badagas. Nilgiris are mainly known for coffee and tea plantations. Besides, vegetables like potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, carrot etc., are also cultivate. Farmers practice terracing and contour bunding methods of cultivation across the sloppy areas. Eucalyptus is grown under social forestry.
